      <title>ABSTRACT</title>
      <p>The construction industry is characterized by highly individual, project-related tasks that place specific demands on data management systems.  While federated data spaces are well established in other industries, it remains unclear for which use cases they are suitable in the construction industry.  This work develops a systematic methodology for identifying suitable areas of application for federated data rooms in the construction industry and applies it to the use cross-linked planning.  Industry-specific data requirements were collected through structured expert interviews.  Process diagrams were then created and detailed in a top-down approach to specific use cases.  These were systematically merged in a bottom-up process to identify and eliminate redundancies.  Finally, evaluation criteria for the suitability of federated data rooms were developed and applied.  The results show that federated data spaces are particularly suitable for use cases in the construction planning phase to prepare on site processes in which edge computing is used to process LIDAR scans, photos, and machine and sensor data from construction sites in real time and make them available to site managers.  This enables projects to be more transparent and gives the possibility to involve all stakeholders with their experience and know-how and has therefore a great impact on the productivity of construction projects.</p>
