ABSTRACT

The study evaluates the effects of the orientation of the peanut shell natural fiber mesh on the compressive and capillary absorption properties of soil matrix composites. The study emphasizes the process of obtaining the natural fiber mesh while preserving the articulated structure of the organic shell and its arrangement on the composite material. The experimental process includes the physical characterization of the raw soil matrix, the physical characteristics of the peanut shell fiber, and the preparation of reinforced soil composites with a fiber inclusion of 0.75% and 1.25% by volume, also taking into account the orientation of the fiber to be randomly dispersed, parallel in one and multiple directions. The results show that the incorporation of natural fiber mesh has a positive effect on the mechanical and capillary absorption reduction properties of the soil composite; however, the parallel and layered placement of the reinforcement can condition the stability of the material, affecting the durability properties of the raw soil-based material.
