      <title>ABSTRACT</title>
      <p>Understanding human evacuation behavior is essential for essential public safety and minimizing life loss during residential fires.  In this study, Virtual Reality (VR) is utilized to evaluate how fire alarm sounds, flames, and smoke contribute to an individual’s motivation to evacuate.  By presenting participants with sequential fire scenarios, the psychological impact of each cue was measured under controlled conditions.  The results indicate that smoke is the most significant factor in increasing evacuation motivation.  Specifically, the post-hoc analysis revealed that smoke significantly increased the intent to evacuate more than the presence of flames.  Similarly, fire alarm sounds were found to have a significantly greater impact on motivation than flames alone.  These findings suggest that while flames are a clear indicator of fire, smoke and auditory alerts function as stronger catalysts for urgent action.  By clarifying these behavioral triggers, this research provides a foundation for enhancing disaster prevention education.  These insights enable the development of more realistic training programs that better prepare individuals to recognize critical danger cues and evacuate promptly during actual fire emergencies.</p>
