ABSTRACT

The prefabricated construction sector plays a fundamental role in Ecuador’s economic and industrial development. It supplies essential inputs for both public infrastructure projects and private initiatives. However, many companies in this sector still rely on empirical and traditional management practices, which limit their competitiveness and efficiency. This study presents the design and implementation of a process management system at COMPACTA, a company in Ibarra that produces prefabricated concrete products. The methodology included an internal and external diagnostic assessment, the identification and mapping of processes, a value-added analysis in time and cost, and the development of procedure manuals, performance indicators, and improvement plans. The results show improvements in operational efficiency, quality control, and profitability, while also providing tools for decision-making and monitoring. Process management is recognized as a requirement of the ISO 9000 family of standards, which supports the implementation of ISO 9001:2015 systems and enables the integration of approaches such as Business Process Management (BPM). Overall, the case demonstrates that a process-based management system can enhance competitiveness, ensure comparability of results, and promote responsible and sustainable practices in the construction sector.
