About Our Host: California State Polytechnic University

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) is one of fewer than twenty polytechnic universities in the United States, and one of only three in California, and is recognized as a leader in polytechnic education. It was founded in 1938 by W. K. Kellogg as a men's agricultural college, but has grown into a reputable academic institution known for its “learn by doing” philosophy. Cal Poly Pomona has created generations of innovators, engineers, scientists, and other leaders. Today, it is recognized as a highly-ranked and diverse public university over over 25,000 students, creating both economic growth and pushing sustainable solutions across Southern California and around the world.

Academic Departments

• Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture: Known for cutting-edge education in plant and animal science, food technology, apparel management, and fashioned ensign.
• College of Engineering: One of the largest and most highly-acclaimed engineering colleges in the United States, boasting aerospace, mechanical, electrical, industrial, and computer engineering majors.
• College of Environmental Design: Pioneering in sustainable building, architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning. Set within an aesthetically-pleasing building that encompasses these values.

• The Collins College of Hospitality Management: Training students for the hospitality industry through hands-on, real-world experience. This is especially apparent from the Kellogg West Hotel and Conference Center, (our event venue,) as well as the Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch, which is entirely student-run.
• College of Education and Integrative Studies: Preparing the next generation of educators with interdisciplinary approaches to human learning and leadership.
• College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences: A hub for societal and human behavioral studies, fostering research and learning in psychology, sociology, political science, economics, communication, and ethnic studies.

Research Excellence & Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Cal Poly Pomona strongly emphasizes collaboration between disciplines and research through its “learn by doing” philosophy. It closely partners with the industry and community to train its students for real-world challenges.

• The Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies: A separate campus dedicated to sustainable design, systems that use renewable energy, and eco-friendly land management.
• The W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center: Preserving W.K. Kellogg's historical legacy while catalyzing research in animal sciences.
• Civil Engineering Labs: Civil Engineering students get to interact with and learn hands-on. Surveying students go into the field to get firsthand experience with real equipment, including levels and total stations.
