This technical tour includes an exclusive visit to the Vincent Thomas Bridge during a redecking project. The Vincent Thomas Bridge is the only suspension bridge in the Los Angeles area, and spans an impressive 1500 feet (460 meter) distance. It was also the first-ever welded suspension bridge in the United States. It is part of SR-47 and carries four lanes of traffic.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is currently carrying out a project to replace the aging and deteriorating deck, worn by years of traffic, age, and the saltwater environment. The project seeks to replace the deck, the seismic sensors, railings, fences, and road median barrier of the bridge.
